The Stone - ASHES diVIDE
Ashes Divide graces the homepage this week. Billy was the founder of A PErfect Circle and Ashes Divide is his solo band that plays the pieces that didn't quite make the APC cut. The Stone was released as his first single and the only one to chart. The drum beat on it is signature Josh Freese (as he was recruited by Billy for the project). It mixes hi-hat and low tom timing and breaks into a more regularized rock jam as the song progresses, culminating in the bridge where his ghost beats on the snare drive forward the vocal line put down by Billy. Josh's fast rolls on the snare and the toms enhance the song without overwhelming it.
